Telfed Ethiopian Community Initiative (TECI) 

Authentic Ethiopian Art, produced by school children at the Maksam After School Enrichment centres in Hadera, Israel.

Funds raised from the sale of these posters are used for purposes of : Hiring professional teachers to assist the TECI volunteers in providing extra lessons and homework supervision; purchasing equipment and educational materials to equip the centres; sponsoring participation in the Yahalom summer camps which focus on building parent-child relationships while promoting knowledge of Zionism, Jewish culture, History,  etc.

Poster 1:

Mother & Children - Depicts many elements from the “Beta Israel” community’s lifestyle in Ethiopia, and the mother’s central role in the family.

Mount Sinai - The Revelation on Mt. Sinai of the Torah of Israel, called “Orit” in the language of the “Beta Israel” community, is a central pillar in the heritage of the community H x W: 340 x 450 mm

Poster 4:

Pomegranate - The pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness. It is said to have 613 seeds, which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot, or commandments, of the Torah.  H x W:  594 x 841 mm

Boys at Play -Imaginitave collage made from brightly-colored, hand-painted cutouts. H x W:  594 x 841 mm

Poster 6:

Guitar Player - Music in the Ethiopian village was a rare & priceless commodity. Musicians had a place of honor at every family event.

Poster 7:

Ethiopian Masenqo Musician - Horse hair, rawhide and wood. These three things predominately make the beautiful one stringed lute that is the Masenqo. H x W: 594 x 841 mm

Jebena and Sini Jebena is the clay pottery used for making and serving coffee. It is served in a Sini, a delicate cup that fits nicely in the palm of your hand. H x W:  841 x 594 mm
