Helping Olim with Mental Health needs

Headed by M.K. (Minister of Parliament) Dr. Avraham Neguisa, the Knesset Aliyah and Klita Committee (in conjunction with the World Zionist Organization), invited Telfed to address members of the Knesset and Zionist organisations on the topic of assistance for new olim with mental health problems.

Telfed's Social Worker Ariela Siegel and Klita Counselor Daniela Shapira, wrote a position paper on the topic and presented it to the Knesset Aliyah and Klita Committee, with CEO Dorron Kline addressing the gathering on the subject of mental health.

He spoke about

(i) the need for designated Social Workers and mental health professionals to assist English speaking olim prior to and following their Aliyah

(ii) the difficulty that mental heath professionals from South Africa and Australia encounter in receiving government recognition of their professional qualifications.

These difficulties have led professionals to move their practices to the private sector, making the utilization of their services very expensive for olim.

M.K. Neguisa expressed his appreciation to the Oleh organisations for raising these issues for discussion at the Knesset and requested the relevant government bodies to respond accordingly.
