“He used to say he would rather lie down in the middle of the street and get hit by a truck than play bingo” (William McBride).

Many of our Southern African Olim thought the same, until they tried the game on Motzei Shabbat 23 January 2010, at the Ohel Avraham Shul and Community Centre in Rishon Le’Zion. 50 people crowed into the small hall and yelled with excitement as the prizes kept coming. Beryl Schmidt, the Telfed Regional Chairperson of Rishon Le’Zion was ecstatic with the turn out.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to bring our Olim in the Rishon/Rechovot area, together. What better way than a fun game, with good food and great prizes!” Olim, Telfed staff and volunteers came from afar a field as Raánana and Beit Shemesh to join the party.

Dorron Kline, Deputy Director of Telfed, brought the following message from the Telfed chairman, Maish Isaacson: “The main aims of the Telfed Regional Committees are to welcome in new Olim and ensure their continued smooth absorption over the years. Ensuring that Southern African Olim can get together for a fun evening, provides the ideal platform whereby veteran Olim can provide support for new Olim in an informal enjoyable atmosphere. Well done to the Rishon Le’Zion Regional Committee for another successful event!”
