Anglo List Invite for April 8th 2010
Dear Friends
Firstly let me welcome all the new members who have joined the Anglo-list social group in the couple of months. We now have over 200 members. If you have any friends who you feel would benefit from this social page and the website, feel free to invite them and spread the word.
We would like to invite you to join us our spring get-together on Thursday night, April 8th, 2010 at 7:30pm. The get-together will be at the Camel Beach in Haifa in the form of a "pot-luck" meal. The Camel Beach is across the road from the Hof HaCarmel Bus and train stations.
I will provide crockery and cutlery. Please bring your own drinks. If you are willing to help on the evening with setting things up or have a fold up table, you can bring, please be in touch with me.
You are most welcome to bring your children but they are your sole responsibility.
At our last get-together we had around 30 people. This is a great opportunity for you to make contact with other English speakers, new olim and veterans.
Please confirm your participation.
Looking forward to seeing you!

Haifa News:
Klita Kehilatit:
The Haifa regional committee was very happy to learn that Haifa was approved for Klita Kehilatit from South Africa. This approval came after we petitioned Misrad Haklita (letter enclosed) and due to pressure from Iriyat Haifa (thanks to Yolin Goldberg). We are looking forward to welcome South African Olim to beautiful Haifa on Aliya Kehilatit.
Social Activities:
- Shabbat Olim:
Fifty two Olim guests, from North America, the UK, South Africa and Australia, came to Ahuza for the Shabbat, on January 29. The Shabbat Olim was sponsored by the local dati community center. For half of the guests, it was their first acquaintance with the beautiful city of Haifa. All the visitors were warmly welcomed by the community members who hosted them in their homes. There was a tour of Haifa on Friday, Tefilot and meals together, Shiurim and Divrei Torah and activities for the young kids. The event was very successful, and a lot of the families expressed interest in Haifa.
- Lag Ba'omer get together:
A fun Lag Ba'omer get-together was organized for the new South African Olim (and not so new). It was held in the beautiful garden of Irma and Mike Zaslansky. Instead of a bonfire we had a braai fire on which we roasted mielies, potatoes, and marshmallows. The new Olim heard about the history of Lag Ba'omer, and had a chance to meet and talk to others with common interests. It was a great evening, and everyone is looking forward for the next get together.
Enclosed are pictures from Lag Ba'omer:

All the best,

Dear "Oleh Vatik" from South Africa,
The current situation in South Africa, and the current opportunities available to Olim in Haifa, provide us, the Telfed Haifa Regional Committee, with an opportunity to build on the legacy of Louis Shapiro and others. This was the spirit in which the more established Olim welcomed and assisted the new Olim to set roots in Haifa.
It is great that our roots have taken, and spread, and that we can dispense with the crutch of our Landsleit society. New arrivals, however, will require a Landsleit framework - just as we did.
We would like to invite you to offer support to new Southern African Olim by making contact with them on their arrival and with providing supportive advice in advance of their arrival.
Please respond by ticking one of the following alternatives and returning it with your name and contact details to one of email addresses below:
I am prepared to
1. Join the Haifa Committee and encourage successful Aliya from Southern Africa. ........
2. Attend an informal gathering with recent Olim from Southern Africa. ...........
3. Become involved socially with the new Olim........
4. Adopt a new Oleh or Oleh family ………
5. Correspond via email with potential Olim before their arrival ….
Kind regards,
