EL AL warns of dropping route to South Africa

The airline seeks diplomatic immunity for security staff.
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. recently notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it will halt its route to South Africa by the end of January if its security staff is not provided with diplomatic passports by then.  El Al currently flies three direct flights per week to Johannesburg, the only direct flights between the two countries.

“Despite rumours to the contrary, El Al Israel Airlines wish to make it clear that they have no intention to suspend or cease operations to South Africa. The Government of Israel and the Government of South Africa are in the process of negotiations to maintain the best security for our passengers which will always be of a very high standard.
