Message from Rabbi Suchard

Since my arrival in Israel a few months ago one of the visits which I truly enjoyed, which lifted my spirits, was the shiur in Ranaana. Chonnie Romm together with Rav Dorron Kline, organized that I speak at a luncheon in the Telfed building. It was a pleasure to meet the crowd with so many South Africans and Sandtonians who came from even hours away to attend the shiur.

The shiur was about Tisha Be Av which P-G  has brought us closer to the final redemption. I thank Mel Cohen, the ex-chairman of Sandton shul for his kind words.

The main theme of the talk was that Fast days have to do with the destruction of the Temple. The Beit Hamikdash, while it was standing, provided us with a closeness to Hashem, and was our protection.

P-G we should merit to have it rebuilt.

I would like to write a short message on the significance of Rosh Hashanah.

There is a story of a ship making its way on the high seas.. The captain noticed a light ahead and sent a message that the oncoming ship should change course. The other ship replied  --You must change course.. Again the captain ordered the oncoming ship to change course and have respect for the admiral of the navy who was aboard their ship. The oncoming "ship' replied--You must change course because we are a lighthouse.

Rosh Hashanah is a lighthouse which guides us to the correct path in life.. Rosh Hashanah stands for the light of Torah values which are eternal. and allows us to improve and rethink our direction in life

Wishing all to be written and sealed for a good year.

Love,

Rabbi and Rochel Suchard
