From left to right: Yael Sela (Maksam Executive Director), Mel Cohen (Head of TECI - Telfed Ethiopian Community Initiative) and Dana Ben Chail (Telfed Head of Volunteerism) accompanied by two lovely artists.
Telfed is involved in a number of initiatives to contribute towards improving the education of Ethiopian children in Israel and generally empowering the Ethiopian community. This is an integral part of our mission, in encouraging Southern Africans to contribute in significant ways to the betterment of Israeli society.
During Chanukkah, Telfed representatives visited The Maksam After School Enrichment Centre in Hadera. Beautiful posters made by the pupils decorated the walls with colorful spinning tops (dreidals), channukiot and tasty doughnuts adding to the festivities.
Dana Ben Chail, Head of Volunteerism and Mel Cohen, Head of TECI (Telfed Ethiopian Community Initiative) were shown around the Centre by Yael Sela, Executive Director.
They met many of the children at work on computers, learning English and Math and painting beautiful posters in the traditional Ethiopian art style and colors.
Dana said "it is lovely to see the children engaged in these educational and constructive activities. Maksam plays an important role in ensuring that these kids get a good start in life".
