Telfed attends the Jewish Agency Board of Governors

Mario Lev – Chairman of the Council of Olim Associations, Daniel Liwerant – Executive member of Keren Ha’Yesod, Dr. Danny Lamm – Chairman of the Aliyah and Rescue Committee, Orly Zuckerman – JAFI Director of Absorption programmes, Dorron Kline – CEO Telfed

Telfed, represented by its CEO Dorron Kline, attended the Jewish Agency (JAFI) Board of Governors (BOG) meeting in Jerusalem, which focused on the 50th anniversary of the reunification of the city of Jerusalem.

Dorron was invited to address the JAFI Aliyah and Klita committee, chaired by Dr. Danny Lamm of Australia. The committee was especially interested in hearing about the SASI (South Africans Studying in Israel) programme – the Telfed initiative that assists students to study in English at Israeli universities, by providing needs-based housing scholarships and reductions in tuition fees, without the need to necessarily make Aliyah.

Dorron suggested that this model be reproduced in other countries too, in order to encourage worldwide Jewish diaspora high school youth to achieve their higher education in Israel.

A significant number of SASI students will decide to make Aliyah and those that don’t will return to South Africa and strengthen the local the Jewish community with their Zionism and knowledge gained from three years of study at an Israeli university. This is a model to be emulated by Jewish communities worldwide” said Dorron.

The JAFI Aliyah and Klita committee showed much interest in the potential of the SASI programme.
