Telfed CEO Dorron Kline with the Israel Encounter Participants
This month, Telfed was honoured to be invited by the Israel Centre to address the Israel Encounter participants. The Israel Encounter programme enables two hundred 11th graders to experience Israel - its sights, sounds and society, while exposing them to the many MASA gap year opportunities available after completing high school in South Africa.
Dorron Kline, CEO of Telfed, visited the group while they were stationed in Modi'in and Tel Aviv. Besides presenting Telfed's manifold Klita (absorption) services for Olim, Dorron focused on the SASI programme. SASI stands for South Africans Studying in Israel.
This Telfed initiative, sponsored by generous South African donors, allows Jewish South African high school graduates to study at universities in Israel in English, without the obligation to make Aliyah. SASI has negotiated up to 50% reductions in university tuition fees and provides substantial scholarships to cover accommodation fees.
There was much interest shown by the Israel Experience participants in the Telfed SASI programme. "SASI has changed my plans to study in English in Israel from a dream into a reality. I can't wait to share this with my parents when I get back to South Africa," was one of remarks from an Israel Encounter participant.
