Annual Beit Shemesh Braai

Southern African Olim enjoying a braai at Kibbutz Tzora

For the 11th year, new and veteran Southern African Olim gathered at Kibbutz Tzora on the first day of Chol Ha'Moed Pesach. This annual tradition takes place on the luscious and shady central grassy area of the kibbutz. This year, over 100 people came to enjoy the beautiful weather and fun family activities as they relaxed and enjoyed their braaied meat.

Participants came from Beit Shemesh, Jerusalem, Rishon Le'Zion, Ashkelon, Tel Aviv and from as far afield as Haifa. Name tags stuck on everyone's shirts enabled the close to thirty families to get to know one another, or reacquaint themselves, while enjoying the bountiful results of their braaing skills.

The adults were treated to a free tour of the Tzora boutique winery and an explanation on how they produce 85 000 magnificent bottles per year. Some then sampled the excellent wines that were on sale (and Kosher for Pesach).

While the smoke from the tens of braais filled the air, children took advantage of the water slide and the two coloured jumping castles (strategically placed in the ample shade provided by the tall pine trees), provided by Kibbutz Tzora.

The winner of this year's raffle of a beautiful bottle of Tzora wine was Trevor Stamelman, a new Oleh to Ramat Beit Shemesh and a qualified real estate agent. He utilised his attuned skills of estimating the costs of houses to correctly guess the number of gem clips in a container.

"Egert & Cohen Insurance" was once again the main sponsors of this year's braai and have been since its proud inception in 2007, together with "Best Market" of Ramat Beit Shemesh.

Diarise the date now! Next year, on the first day of Chol Ha'Moed Pesach we will be at Kibbutz Tzora. You don't want to miss the Telfed Beit Shemesh Regional Committee's annual braai!
